OASIS Local Participatory Action – Capannori

PLACE: Fattoria Maionchi, Tofori – Capannori
DATE: 12th July, 2024
PARTNER: Municipality of Capannori

On July 12, 2024, the OASIS Local Participatory Action event was held at Fattoria Maionchi, in Tofori, Capannori. The event gathered 20 participants, representing key stakeholders involved in the project: local authorities, public institutions, educational organizations, rural youth and women, as well as civil society groups.

The main objective of this gathering was to begin crafting the EU strategy for participative governance, aimed at the protection, promotion, and valorization of traditional agricultural vineyard landscapes. The strategy focused on three key areas:

  1. Sustainable tourism to promote and enhance European vineyard landscapes.
  2. Innovative technologies for managing cultural tourism across scattered sites.
  3. Sustainable cultural tourism management measures.

To foster dynamic discussions, participants were organized into working groups of four to five individuals, in line with the OASIS Methodology. With the groups formed, the event commenced.

The OASIS Methodology in Action
The first five phases of the OASIS Methodology were implemented during the session, guiding the participants through a comprehensive, participatory process.

1. Appreciative Gaze
The event began with participants reflecting on the intrinsic beauty and potential of European vineyard landscapes. This phase encouraged a collective appreciation of the cultural and natural significance of these areas, setting the tone for collaboration and shared understanding.

2. Affection
In this phase, participants explored their local territory, identifying best practices aligned with the project’s focus on sustainable tourism, innovative cultural management technologies, and responsible tourism practices. Each initiative was recorded on post-it notes, forming a visual representation of the area’s strengths.

3. Dreaming
Participants were then invited to envision a future where sustainable tourism thrives, powered by innovative technologies that manage cultural experiences across these scattered sites. Their dreams and aspirations were captured on post-it notes, which were then grouped by thematic areas to create a collective vision for the future.

4. Care
Representatives from each working group shared the values and themes envisioned for the future, prompting vibrant discussions and the exchange of ideas. This open forum allowed for the refinement of the collective vision, ensuring it reflected diverse perspectives and local needs.

5. Action
The final phase, Action, focused on translating vision into reality. Participants identified concrete individual actions they could take to contribute to the “collectively dreamed territory,” aligning with the values of the winEU.rur EU Strategy for participative governance. A two-round voting process determined the most promising actions, with an emphasis on collaboration, technology, and participatory decision-making. The highest-voted actions were presented and discussed by the entire group.

The outcomes from this event, alongside the contributions from other partner sessions across Europe, will serve as the foundation for the winEU.rur EU Strategy for participative governance. This collaborative effort, fueled by the dreams and actions of local stakeholders, will ensure the sustainable promotion and transferability of the project’s results and values.
